New Beginnings at Mountain View Community Church

Connecting the Community and the Church

In 1991, God called Rev. H. L. Thomas, Jr. to begin a ministry known as Mountain View Church. He started a church very similar to the church from whence he came.

After a period of time, he observed that the church was having some of the same problems encountered at the previous church. The people at large seemed to have little concern about meeting spiritual maturity in Christ. Therefore, many of the ministries that should have been offered as a church to the community were limited. Pastor Thomas felt that he was headed in one direction and the church in another. It was at that time that God revealed to Pastor Thomas to relocate the church. It was also revealed to him that every local church or congregation that God places or gives birth has a purpose.

The Lord challenged the faith of the church to begin looking for land. He led the church to 5601 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas. The church vision was too great to accomplish, but not for God. The seller of the land, Grace Presbyterian Church, accepted the offer for purchase. It was as if the Lord sent Grace Presbyterian Church ahead, before the church came into existence in 1991, to buy the land and hold it until the appointed time.

So many churches put emphasis on membership and not on discipleship. But, God has established this ministry to become a purpose driven church. Straying from this purpose will cause the church to cease to exist. The mission is to lead and train believers to become disciples. Only mature disciples can do the work God requires of this church. Matthew 11:28 says, "Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and ye shall rest unto your soul. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

The existing building currently sits on five acres of land.  A plan to buy additional connecting land that extends to Camp Wisdom Road for future use and growth has been developed. Phase I is complete, with a plan to complete Phase II, continuing to Phase III. The goal is to complete all three phases, buy additional land in the next five years, and become debt free in ten years.
